Survivor Series 1997 in Montreal. Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels. The plan was for Bret Hart to retain the Championship in his home country of Canada and HBK would win the title later down the road. Vince McMahon, Earl Hebner and Shawn Michaels all devised a plan behind Bret's back to have HBK win the title instead and that's what happened, so the script stated that Bret was to retain and they just simply decided to screw him. He showed up on WCW's Nitro the next week maybe.

That's messed up..so did Bret Hart follow the script? Or did HBK fight him on his own and really beat him.

No, Bret Followed the Script and when HBK put Bret Hart into a submission, Earl Hebner said that Bret Tapped out when he really didn't, so the scheduled storyline was reveresed around Bret's back and the promise was broken, which was to have Bret Retain in Canada, hence known as the Montreal Screwjob
